after last year's LocWeb 2008 workshop at WWW2008, we thought about where to organize a follow-up LocWeb 2009 workshop, and finally submitted a proposal to the 27th CHI conference (CHI 2009) in boston april 4-9, 2009, and this proposal has now been accepted. workshops will be held april 4-5, so expect LocWeb 2009 to be held on one of these days.
the main idea behind this move to CHI was that LocWeb 2008 was successful, but it also showed a certain lack of awareness that some coordination in the world of location and the web might be useful. so instead of organizing another workshop around the top-down idea of how to turn the web into a location-aware information system (which still is the ultimate goal), LocWeb 2009 will provide bottom-up evidence that there are many web-based location-aware applications out there, and that they have reached critical mass and thus are sufficiently important to make the point that web technologies should be updated to reflect that development.
more information about LocWeb 2009 will be made available soon. for now, the LocWeb mailing list is already available as a forum for information exchange in the area of location and the web.
