now that the iPhone 2.1 Software Update has been released and the iPhone 3G is slowly approaching the status of actually working as a phone, i am still wondering why there were so few complaints about the fact that 2.0.2 basically disabled all 3rd party apps for a couple of weeks.
i am wondering how people would react if a windows service pack would break all non-microsoft software on a PC, and microsoft would respond by saying we are aware of that and will issue a fix sometimes next month
. people would run around accusing microsoft of doing this on purpose and being evil again. apparently, apple can get away with that easily, and i really don't understand why. it is as mysterious to me as the fact that most people still seem to believe that Google wants to improve the world, instead of reeling in enormous profits.
my conclusion from this observation that only few people complained is that almost nobody is using 3rd party apps for important tasks. it really is not such a big deal when your koi pond or your primordial ooze is unavailable for a couple of weeks...
