apple just released some information about the 2.1 firmware update (which will be available this friday, 9/12) for the iPhone and the iPod touch. this officially acknowledges all the problems they have with the 3G network, and it would be really nice for a change to have a phone that can reliably make and receive calls. but from the usual behavior (getting a
Call Failed when calling, or others being connected to my voice mail directly when they call me), it looks as if the problem at least partly is also somewhere deep in how the 3G networks connects with other networks, and that is more likely an AT&T problem than a firmware problem.
so far there is no mention of whether 2.1 would also make all the 3rd party apps run again which were effectively disabled by the 2.0.2 software update, but that should have been something high on the priority list.
