today i received an email from a friend switching email addresses, claiming he really wanted to start everybody using his new Yahoo! address right now! i found that a bit annoying, but that was it.
as it turns out, Yahoo! Mail has decided to send spam on as large a basis as possible, sending out these notifications to all of your contacts as soon as you import them (and they don't ask you, they just send the messages as soon as you import).
so better think twice before you start playing around with the new Yahoo! mail service. apparently, they do not have the slightest idea what it would mean to think about privacy and handling user data responsibly, and my guess is that this little spamming thing is just one of probably a number of other interesting helpful services
violating your and your contacts' privacy.
whoever thought of including that functionality in Yahoo! mail should be rewarded a prize for finding the most efficient way to generate bad publicity and make users hate your service as quickly as possible. good job, Yahoo!
